Contact tracing in configuration models

چکیده
Abstract Quarantining and contact tracing are popular ad hoc practices for mitigating epidemic outbreaks. However, few mathematical theories currently available to asses the role of a network in effectiveness these practices. In this paper, we study how final size an is influenced by procedure that combines quarantining on null model: configuration model. Namely, suppose infected vertices may self-quarantine trace their infector with given success probability. A traced is, turn, less likely infect others. We show such process strongly depends structure. contrast previous findings, not necessarily more effective networks heterogeneous degrees. also clustering influences non-trivial way: depending infectiousness parameter, clustered either be more, or efficient than without clustering.

A contact-tracing procedure.
The increase in the number of new cases of gonorrhoea and the apparent expansion of the reservoir of carriers of the disease have directed attention to the need for reviewing contact-tracing techniques. To obtain the opinions of others on this subject, a *questionnaire was sent to the physicians-in-charge of 205 special treatment centres in England in April 1962. From the replies received, it w...
متن کاملContact tracing and disease control.
Contact tracing, followed by treatment or isolation, is a key control measure in the battle against infectious diseases. It is an extreme form of locally targeted control, and as such has the potential to be highly efficient when dealing with low numbers of cases. For this reason it is frequently used to combat sexually transmitted diseases and new invading pathogens. Accurate modelling of cont...
متن کاملValue of re-interviewing in contact tracing.
The epidemiological importance of reinterviewing in contact tracing, using those treated for venereal is demonstrated. Interviewing as a preliminary to contact tracing is usually done by the physician in charge. When 160 patients with early syphilis failed to provide information on contacts, they were reinterviewed by a skilled interviewer trained in psychology and working in pleasant surroun...
متن کاملContact tracing in hepatitis B infection.
In an epidemiological study of patients diagnosed as having hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection during a 12 month period in a London health district, 98 (67%) of 144 index cases and 146 (67%) of 218 of their named contacts were interviewed. The problems and benefits of using conventional contact tracing techniques in the management of this infection are discussed. Named contacts in stable relatio...
متن کاملContact tracing strategies in heterogeneous populations.
Contact tracing is a well-established disease control measure that seeks to uncover cases by following chains of infection. This paper examines mathematical models of both single-step and iterative contact tracing schemes and analyses the ability of these procedures to trace core groups and the sensitivity of the intervention to the timescale of tracing. An iterative tracing process is shown to...
